The new mobile game was announced alongside the upcoming console game Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires at Tokyo Game Show 2020. However, Koei Tecmo’s financial report for the third quarter of the 2020 fiscal year indicated that the mobile game would launch earlier within the fourth quarter.

Unlike the outsourced mobile games like the DW8-based Dynasty Warriors: Unleashed and the DW7-based Dynasty Warriors: Dominate, this new Dynasty Warriors mobile game is developed internally by Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force team and based on Dynasty Warriors 9. While the game will launch with only a part of the roster, the team intends to eventually include all 94 unique characters currently featured in the series.

This mobile game will support gameplay in both landscape and portrait modes. It will also have numerous game modes, which will range from single-player to co-op and versus. The game’s storyline will feature branching routes. It will also be filled with collection features, such as weapons, illustrations, and alternate character colors. Koei Tecmo is also holding a fan art contest until March 3, 2021, with the winning image set to be actually included inside the mobile game.

The new Dynasty Warriors mobile game will be available soon in Japan for Android and iOS devices. Although Koei Tecmo did not precisely mention a launch date in its press release, Apple App Store listed the game’s release date as March 3, 2021.
