E3 2021

Online E3 2021 Event Plans Pitched by Entertainment Software Association

The Entertainment Software Association pitched plans for a potential E3 2021 event to a selection of video game publishers, reports Video Games Chronicle. At the moment, the proposal involves a streamed event that begins on June 15, 2021. It would end on June 17, 2021. [Thanks, Video Games Chronicle!]

These dates are consistent with the 2020 announcement regarding a 2021 comeback for the event. It had to be canceled in 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic is also the reason the ESA has opted to host the event remotely this year. Similar plans were in the works last year, but they never came to fruition.

The ESA proposed a series of two-hour keynote addresses from various gaming partners. There would also be a preview event on June 14, 2021, an awards show, and a range of other streams from influencers, developers, media representatives, and other people in the industry. Preview events for media and downloadable demos for consumers would help flesh out the event, allowing for a more hands-on experience. The ESA would also facilitate one-on-one interactions between developers and the media through scheduled meetings where members of the media could remotely play through streamed demos.

At the moment, a detailed E3 2021 event schedule is unavailable, and it isn’t clear which companies could be participating in the proposed event. Sony skipped the event in 2019 and had no intention of attending in 2020, either.
