The book is a collection of essays about the various things that have inspired and influenced Kojima over the years. It originally released in Japanese with the title, The Gifted Gene and My Lovable Memes, but will release in English with the longer title, The Creative Gene: How books, movies, and music inspired the creator of Death Stranding and Metal Gear Solid.

At the moment, the only official way for English readers to experience the book was by reading the introduction, “What Memes Connect Us To,” which was translated and released on the website, BookBang.

According to Polygon, the book will also contain a conversation between Kojima and Gen Hoshino, the musician who composed the song “Pop Virus” in Death Stranding. Polygon also stated that The Creative Gene: How books, movies, and music inspired the creator of Death Stranding and Metal Gear Solid will release on October 12, 2021.

Hideo Kojima recently made a cameo in the CD Projekt Red title, Cyberpunk 2077. A collaboration between Death Stranding and Cyberpunk 2077  was released on December 17, 2020 for PC.
