Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires Delayed Past Early 2021

Koei Tecmo and Omega Force confirmed that Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires is delayed and will not be released within early 2021. In a tweet made on the Japanese Dynasty Warriors Twitter account, which is also available in English on the Koei Tecmo America account, Producer Akihiro Suzuki apologized on behalf of the development team. The group shared the above screenshot taken from the opening movie as it continues to work on polishing the game.

Here’s the full announcement:

Koei Tecmo had not revealed more details on Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires since the initial reveal at Tokyo Game Show 2020, apart from occasional interviews with Japanese media outlets. The title was also absent from the company’s immediate plans for the fourth quarter of the current fiscal year, which goes from January to March 2021. Suzuki’s development team is currently working on launching the internally-made Dynasty Warriors mobile game in Japan by the end of this fiscal year.

We learned so far that Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires will mostly retain the Domestics system from the prequel. It will also have a robust character creation system based on Nioh 2. The team will change the battle system from supply line-based warfare to castle sieges. Producer Suzuki has also shown an interest in implementing DualSense features on the PlayStation 5 version.

Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires is currently in development for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Koei Tecmo will announce its new release window in due time.
