Nobunaga's Ambition: Shinsei

Nobunaga’s Ambition: Shinsei Will March Forward in 2021

Koei Tecmo revealed Nobunaga’s Ambition: Shinsei, the sixteenth mainline title in the Japanese historical strategy game series that will be released in 2021. The subtitle Shinsei can be translated to “New Life” or “Rebirth.” The announcement of this title marks the 40th anniversary in the career of Kou Shibusawa, the pen name of Yoichi Erikawa, who also founded Koei. This title’s development is headed by Kenichi Ogasawara, the current leader of Kou Shibusawa’s brand team. Ogasawara was well-known for leading a team in Omega Force that made Persona 5 Strikers, as well as the Toukiden and Dragon Quest Heroes series. However, he also helped develop Nobunaga’s Ambition: Sphere of Influence, the fourteenth title released in 2013.

Nobunaga’s Ambition is a long-running series of Japanese historical strategy games that take place during the Warring States era in the 16th century. The first game in the series was released in 1983.

While the Chinese-based Romance of the Three Kingdoms series had alternated between Ruler and Officer modes, all mainline Nobunaga’s Ambition games to date exclusively focused on the Ruler viewpoint. The 2016 spinoff Nobunaga’s Ambition: Sphere of Influence – Ascension was the first—and currently the only—title in the series to feature Officer viewpoints.

Some of the recent Nobunaga’s Ambition games have also received an English localization. Nobunaga’s Ambition: Taishi, the fifteenth and the latest mainline title released to date, has been available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch since November 2017. As of this writing, Koei Tecmo’s American and European branches have yet to announce a Western release for Shinsei.

Nobunaga’s Ambition: Shinsei will be available in 2021. Koei Tecmo has yet to announce platforms for the strategy game.
