NieR Automata PC to get an Upgrade Patch on Steam

NieR Automata PC owners can look forward to an improved experience with a new patch. Square Enix, through the official NieR Series Twitter account, announced that work is underway to improve the Steam version of the game. Actual details on what this work would entail were absent, but the account promised more information at a later date.

Here’s the announcement.

NieR Automata launched on multiple platforms in 2017, including on PCs via Steam. However, compared with the console versions of the game, the PC version suffered from performance and technical issues. Players complained about issues with in-game resolution, frame rate, and stability. Over time unofficial mods and other patches addressed some of the problems, but others remained.

Then came the advent of the NieR Automata PC addition to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service. Users discovered that the version of the game added to the service was not the same as the one on Steam. Further, the Game Pass edition appeared to have some additional features, such as compatibility with AMD’s FidelityFX graphical enhancements, HDR, and enhanced textures in some spots. These improvements were not added to the Steam version, though by contrast the Game Pass edition cannot be modded, meaning other issues endemic to the PC editions of NieR Automata remain. Only time will tell exactly what will be included in the planned upgrade patch coming to Steam.

NieR Automata is available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and Xbox Game Pass. NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139, an enhanced remake of the original PS3 NieR game, will release on April 23, 2021.
