Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Has Been Viewed Over 5 Million Times in Japan

Khara announced that Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time has reached a new viewer milestone six weeks after release. More than 5 million viewers in Japan have watched the movie. The exact numbers given after 42 days are 5,088,007 viewers, with a total revenue of 7,799,314,050 yen (~$72,144,825). [Thanks, Game Watch!]

The latest Evangelion movie started with a revenue of over 82 million yen and five hundred thousand tickets sold on its debut day. Within the first seven days, the movie grossed 3.3 billion yen with over 2 million viewers. After five weeks, those numbers had increased more than twofold to over 7.4 billion yen and 4.8 million tickets. The franchise’s official Japanese Twitter account also revealed that it reached the 7.5 billion yen mark on the 37th day on April 13, 2021.

As a comparison, Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo grossed 5.3 billion yen with 3.82 million tickets sold in total. Evangelion 3.0+1.0 surpassed both amounts on March 29, 2021, three weeks after the initial launch.

Evangelion 3.0+1.0, the final movie in the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy, released in Japanese theaters on March 8, 2021. Various kinds of merchandise inspired by the franchise’s characters and EVA units have shown up, ranging from USB hubs to skateboards. Khara also collaborated with other companies and brands like Capcom and Anna Sui to release even more merchandise items.
