Game Center CX Season 25 Shinya Arino

Game Center CX Can Now Cover PS2, GameCube, and GBA Games

The Japanese gaming TV show Game Center CX is now able to cover games from PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, and Game Boy Advance, since more than 20 years have passed since the consoles’ releases. The show’s Twitter account made the announcement after the host Shinya Arino completed a playthrough of the NES game The Legend of Zelda in the latest episode. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

Game Center CX has been airing on Fuji TV One since 2003. There is a general rule that the show can only cover game consoles that are at least 20 years old. However, there have also been exceptions to that rule in order to mark special commemorations.

Arino has collaborated with Nintendo multiple times due to connections from this show. In October 2015, Super Mario Maker received a DLC costume and an event level made by Arino himself. In 2016, Nintendo gave Arino a special challenge to catch all 151 Pokemon in Pokemon Red & Green to mark the release of Pokemon Sun & Moon.

Bandai Namco also previously released games based on this television show for the Nintendo DS and 3DS. The latest title, Game Center CX 3, released for the 3DS in Japan in 2014. These games are also known for featuring original games inspired by famous retro games. For example, Game Center CX 3 included an original RPG titled Blood of the Dragon, which had its gameplay system taken from Final Fantasy V.
