Genshin Impact merchandise rules

miHoYo Lists Rules on Overseas Genshin Impact Fan-Made Merchandise

miHoYo recently uploaded its rules on overseas fan-made merchandise for Genshin Impact, limiting the quantities artists can produce. The “Genshin Impact Overseas Fan-Made Merchandise Guide (Excluding Mainland China),” or simply the “Overseas Guide” for short, is available in its entirety on miHoYo’s website, but here is a simplified version of the guidelines.

Fans have to make it very clear that their physical merchandise is fan-made. They cannot try and pretend they are official, nor can they apply for copyright since it is derivative work. They also may not create content that damages Genshin Impact or miHoYo’s reputations. For example, one cannot make and sell a keychain depicting Tartaglia saying a racial slur. Artists can only create and sell 200 units. If one wishes to sell more than 200, they can apply for authorization from miHoYo. The authorization contact information and template are available on the website. If one wishes to sell figures they need approval, no matter the quantity.

In addition to the above rules, fans cannot touch up or counterfeit existing official Genshin Impact art or merchandise. For example, an artist who simply adds gradient onto a direct screenshot from the game and then sells it for profit will get in trouble. This is in relation to the rule that prohibits artists from passing themselves off as an official source. The reason why these rules exclude mainland China, where miHoYo is based, is because these rules are already in place there.

Genshin Impact is currently available on the PC, mobile devices, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The Eula banner started on May 18, 2021. In related official news, miHoYo recently implemented 2FA account verification after multiple users inquired about security.
