Yoko Taro Reaffirms That Voice of Cards Is Not Linked to Drakengard or NieR

In an interview with Dengeki, Yoko Taro reaffirms that Voice of Cards: The Isle of Dragon Roars has no connection to Drakengard or the NieR series. While white and black dragons appear in the trailers for Voice of Cards, Yoko Taro states that there is simply no connection between this new title and his previous works. Taro originally shared this through a previous Twitter post. At that time, he stated that Voice of Cards was “not a Drakengard game.” [Thanks, Dengeki!]

However, when asked about a potential connection to NieR: Reincarnation, as the narration in Voice of Cards is somewhat similar to the mobile title, Yoko Taro hinted that the only thing remotely the same about them was their cost.

Additionally, Executive Producer Yosuke Saito shared some insight into the development of Voice of Cards. He spoke in detail about the development period of the game, saying:

It took longer than expected because it was developed between NieR Reincarnation and NieR Replicant, but I’m very happy that we can finally show this to everyone.

He also revealed that the development for Voice of Cards took 1.5 times longer than initially planned due to the number of titles in development at the same time.

Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars will release on PC, Nintendo Switch, and PS4 on October 28, 2021. A demo is immediately available.
