The strategic partnership was revealed via a press release on the official Sega corporate website. In it, Sega notes that accessing high-quality entertainment has become easier as 5G and cloud services have become more widespread. Sega defines its Super Games as revolutionary titles for the next generation that will take advantage of these new technological developments.

Specifically, said titles would focus on aspects such as community, IP utilization, internet connectivity, and global scope. In order to develop these titles, Sega is enlisting the help of Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform. Microsoft will provide the network infrastructure and technology to support Sega’s global titles and online services. Sega President and Chief Operating Officer Yukio Sugino hopes to develop more entertaining games by combining Sega’s development experience and Microsoft’s technological expertise.

This isn’t the first time the two companies have partnered up to release games. Sega notably used Microsoft Azure to release Phantasy Star Online 2 in North America. The global closed beta for Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis was also only available for Windows 10 PCs.
