Nintendo is adding an Evil Ryu spirit to Super Smash Bros Ultimate as part of its Street Fighter series 35th anniversary celebration. The Street Fighter spirit event that includes Evil Ryu and several returning Street Fighter spirits will be available in SSBU starting January 14, 2022, and end on January 19, 2022.

Evil Ryu, or Satsui Ryu, first appeared in Street Fighter Alpha 2 as a playable character. Evil Ryu is a version of the character that gives into the Satsui no Hado, or Surge of Murderous Intent. As such, players will have to defeat Ryu before acquiring the spirit in SSBU. The Evil Ryu spirit is a four-star Attacker type that provides an increase in fist attack damage when equipped.

The new and returning Street Fighter spirits are part of the series’ 35th anniversary celebration. A few days ago, Capcom also revealed a special 35th anniversary logo. While Street Fighter V already received its final DLC character Luke late last year, Director Takayuki Nakayama and Producer Shuhei Matsumoto have mentioned that the character would also appear in the next Street Fighter project.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate is immediately available for the Nintendo Switch. The SSBU Street Fighter spirit event and Evil Ryu spirit will be available from January 14 to 19, 2022.
