Yahoo! Japan released a poll ranking every mainline Final Fantasy game, revealing the top 10 games within the franchise. The final results tallied a total of 28,000 votes. However, online mainline Final Fantasy games are included within the ranking. This means that spin-off titles or sequels, like Final Fantasy X-2 or Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, are not part of the list. Additionally, this list only applies to Japan. [Thanks, Yahoo! - Final Fantasy III
Further down the list include the first Final Fantasy title, Final Fantasy XV, Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy XIII, and Final Fantasy II in that order.
In February 2020, NHK held a massive poll which ranked not only the popularity of Final Fantasy titles, but also characters within the franchise. This included ranking for mainline games and spin-off titles. Final Fantasy X was revealed to be the most popular Final Fantasy title as of 2020, with Final Fantasy VII sitting behind it. Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII was the most popular character. Yuna from Final Fantasy X came in second place.
