13 Sentinels Aegis Rim Switch launch celebrated with 1/16 scale mech display at Akihabara

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Switch Launches With Akihabara Mech Statue

A scale statue based on one of the mechs in 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim has appeared at JR Akihabara Station in Tokyo, Japan. Atlus placed it to promote the launch of the game’s Nintendo Switch version in the country.

The statue is based on the 13th Sentinel. In the actual game, Juro Kurabe piloted this second-generation Sentinel. While the real-life statue is a 1/16 scale approximation of the mech, it still has a height of over 2 meters (~6’6.74″). Atlus placed the statue at the event space inside the station near the Electric Town Exit, so only people who actually travel between stations by train can see it up close.

The Sentinel statue appears only during the launch week of the Switch version of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. People residing in Tokyo will be able to see it until Sunday, April 17, 2022. Atlus will also only unveil the display from 10 AM to 6 PM in the local time zone.

Atlus and Vanillaware originally released the real-time strategy mecha game 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim on PlayStation 4 in Japan in November 2019 and in the West in September 2020. In late 2021, they announced a Nintendo Switch port of the game that would add new weapons for all thirteen playable mechs. Contrary to the original PS4 release, the West received the Switch port on April 12, 2022, two days earlier than Japan.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is available on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
