Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires Has Sold 280,000 Units Worldwide

Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires has reached 280,000 units sold worldwide. This number comes from Koei Tecmo’s financial report for the full fiscal year that ended in March 2022. It combined physical and digital sales of the title on all platforms and regions.

In the same report, Koei Tecmo also confirmed that Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream has reached 200,000 units sold worldwide. The company also highlighted that it was in charge of developing Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin for Square Enix and Touken Ranbu Warriors for DMM. However, it did not include the sales figure for either title.

In January 2022’s report for the fiscal year’s third quarter, Koei Tecmo reported that it had sold 150,000 units of Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires in Japan and Asia—where the game is known as Shin Sangoku Musou 8: Empires. In the same period, the Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water remaster sold over 340,000 units worldwide on all platforms combined. The company released the Western localization of Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires on February 15, 2022, and it had 130,000 more units sold in the first quarter of 2022.

The last time Koei Tecmo listed the full worldwide sales figures for an Empires title was in 2009. Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires, which came out on the PS3 and Xbox 360, sold over 430,000 units globally. In October 2015, Samurai Warriors 4 Empires had over 100,000 units sold in Japan and Asia, but the company did not list its global sales number.

Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires is available on the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
