Stray

Stray Prowls Onto PlayStation and PC in July 2022

For a certain subset of players, Sony’s State of Play might as well have been about the “date of Stray.” BlueTwelve and Annapurna Interactive’s new third-person (third-feline?) adventure game has a release date: July 19, 2022. The game places players in control of an ordinary feral cat. This cat befriends a little drone known as B12, and must navigate a decaying, futuristic cyberpunk city and its outskirts. Together, they’ll solve an ancient mystery to find a way home.

Check out the Stray release date trailer below.

The Stray trailer begins in an alley. The cat can climb, jump, and use its size and agility to get places outside the reach of the city’s robotic inhabitants. Further scenes show off more action-oriented play, as the cat avoids hostile robots and a swarm of unfriendly grub-like creatures. Players will be able to roam the environment, seeing the world through the perspective of a cat and engaging in playful interactions with objects as well as the city’s inhabitants.

For more about how the game works, the developer released a gameplay walkthrough for Stray in July 2021.

Narrated by BlueTwelve Game Producer Swann, the walkthrough shows off gameplay from an earlier build of Stray. There the cat solves various environmental puzzles by knocking over various objects to open a path forward. The cat can use its drone buddy, B12, to interact with objects and communicate with the city’s residents.

Stray arrives on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC on July 19, 2022.
