All 24 starter Pokemon from previous mainline titles will be returning for the DLC as wild Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Pokemon. This means that everyone from the original trio of Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle up to Sword and Shield starters Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble will all be available. The trailer shows off pairings such as Cyndaquil and Torchi, Oshawott and Piplup, and Snivy and Rowlet. This marks the first time in the series that all previous starter Pokemon have been freely available without the need for trading.

The trailer revealing the starter Pokemon also had plenty of other new additions to show off. A bunch of new moves will be coming to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, including Psychic Noise, which causes damage and blocks healing, and Upper Hand, which strikes before a target’s priority move. The new Raikou and Cobalion variants will each gain a new move, with Raging Bolt (Raikou) gaining Thunderclap and Iron Crown (Cobalion) gaining Tachyon Cutter, which attacks twice in a row.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are out now for Nintendo Switch. The second part of the DLC expansion, The Indigo Disk, will be releasing sometime in Winter 2023.
