When Nintendo first detailed Mario Kart 7 for the 3DS, it looked as though the game was taking a leaf out of MotorStorm’s book, introducing elements like shortcuts, off-roading and air-time.

Ultimately, however, Mario Kart 7 isn’t really all that different from its predecessors, and the Blue Shell is as annoying as ever. Luckily, it looks like Angry Birds developer Rovio aren’t as scared of spicing the kart-racing genre up a little more.

Above is a trailer for Angry Birds Go!, a kart racer headed to iOS, Android, Windows Phone 8 and Blackberry 10, that seems to blend the best of Mario Kart and MotorStorm into a single game. There are upgradable karts, gliding, off-roading, air-time, and a general sense of speed and freedom that’s been sorely lacking in Mario Kart games.

Yes, it’s a phone game, but Rovio did eventually bring Angry Birds to consoles, so it would make complete sense for this game to be brought over as well. Angry Birds Go! is slated for release on the aforementioned devices on December 11th.
