While Koei Tecmo planned to release a physical edition of Atelier Ryza 2 for PS5, the publisher canceled it due to “various reasons.” However, the release of the digital edition of Atelier Ryza 2 for PS5 will carry on as planned. This includes the previously detailed upgrade program. Those who purchase the PlayStation 4 version of Atelier Ryza 2, physical or digital, will get to upgrade to a digital PS5 version, free of charge.

However, there is one caveat for those looking to upgrade from a PS4 copy to a digital PS5 copy. Koei Tecmo reminds us in the notice that those looking to upgrade from a physical edition of the PS4 version will need a standard PS5 to do so. It’s obvious, but you’ll definitely need a disc drive to do these kinds of upgrades, so that might also be worth considering for your future PS5 purchase.

Atelier Ryza 2 will release for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch in Japan on December 3, 2020. The game will release in North America for the PS5, PS4, Switch, and PC via Steam on January 26, 2021. Europe will get the game on January 29, 2020.
