Dragon’s Crown isn’t the first Vanillaware project Atlus will be involved in. Some may recall that they also published Odin Sphere (above) on the PlayStation 2, a fact that they pointed out in their press release about Dragon’s Crown. Also mentioned was an interesting tidbit about Odin Sphere’s worldwide sales.

“Vanillaware is a developer beloved for their tremendous visual talent and extraordinary attention to detail,” read a statement from Shinichi Suzuki, President and CEO of Index Digital Media, Inc., Atlus’ parent company. “Our previous collaboration with them, Odin Sphere, went on to sell over 350,000 units worldwide, entering the prestigious PlayStation Greatest Hits library.  While much work remains, we believe this collaboration will be well worth the wait.”

350,000 worldwide sounds like a pretty good number for a Vanillaware title. Of course, that was during the 2007-2008 period and the games market is a different place now. We look forward to seeing how Dragon’s Crown performs, when all is said and done.
