Batman: Arkham Origins Is About Batman’s Introduction To The Insane

Batman: Arkham Origins will show a “beta Batman” says DC Comics’ Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns in an interview with Game Informer.

Johns says this doesn’t means that Batman is an amateur. He’s well into his Batman career—Origins has been described by its developers as a “Year Two” story—but isn’t the Batman that’s as well-acquainted with Gotham’s more insane criminal element as the one we know today. It’s a different story from Johns’ own Batman: Earth One, which was more of an alternate origin story.

“It’s called Arkham Origins and it really is the introduction of what Arkham means,” says Johns. “Arkham evokes a sense of insanity and chaos embodied in the twisted minds and colorful villains of the Batman universe. That had to start somewhere. This is really more about Batman’s initiation into that insane world, where my book’s more about Batman as a vigilante and really deciding which path to go down.”

Batman: Arkham Origins is scheduled for release this October.
