We’ll split this guide into three playstyles: beginner, normal, and challenging. Palworld’s ability to customize world settings allows everyone, no matter their skill or ability, to play exactly the way that they want to, with no limits. Remember that none of the below settings are set in stone; if you don’t like a setting I’ve listed, feel free to tweak it however fits you best. They’re simply a baseline.

Best server settings for beginners in Palworld
If you’re new to Palworld, you should select settings that will give you a solid start so you have room to learn the game’s mechanics with little to no stress. Palworld isn’t just about catching Pals; it’s also filled with survival and crafting elements, so I’d recommend choosing the following options under Custom difficulty to give yourself room to adjust:
- Day time speed: 1.
- Night time speed: 1.
- EXP rate: 5.
- Pal capture rate: 2.
- Pal appearance rate: 1 (you could increase this, but it will affect the game’s performance).
- Damage from Pals multiplier: 0.5.
- Damage to Pals multiplier: 1.
- Pal hunger depletion rate: 0.2.
- Pal stamina reduction rate: 0.2.
- Pal auto HP regeneration rate: 1.5.
- Pal sleep health regeneration rate: 1.5.
- Damage from player multiplier: 2.

Once you get into the swing of things, you can change your world server settings to make it more challenging if you need to, so don’t feel like you have to stick to easy mode for your entire Palworld playthrough. I myself started off with easy settings and then switched them up once I learned how the game worked so that I didn’t become overwhelmed with all the mechanics.
Best normal server settings
If the above world server settings are too easy for you or you feel like you have played enough to raise the difficulty, I recommend more challenging options in Palworld. It won’t be as chill as the beginner settings, but it won’t chew you up too much for making mistakes, either. It’s essentially allowing you to live as you would if you were really in a survival world with no buffs to give you a helping hand. It’s playing fair at its finest.
I play on a normal difficulty, and these are my personal Palworld settings from my own game:

The only setting I go back and forth on is the ‘Hours to incubate Massive Egg’ because sometimes, I’m too impatient to wait for a 10-hour hatch time, especially if I’ve found a Huge Egg or if I’ve bred a rare Pal that I want to add to my team as soon as possible. If you want to cheat a bit and get instant hatch times, set it to zero, and thank me later. No judgments here!
Best hard server settings
For players who want to challenge themselves and really put Palworld‘s survival mechanics to the test, you’ll want to limit settings like EXP and Pal capture rate and make your character and Pals tire and get hungry quicker. You’ll essentially want to fight to survive in your world because death will mean you lose everything on respawn.
- Day time speed: 0.5.
- Night time speed: 0.5.
- EXP rate: 0.5.
- Pal capture rate: 0.5.
- Pal appearance rate: 0.5 (you could increase this, but it will affect the game’s performance).
- Damage from Pals multiplier: 2.

The only downside to dropping your items and Pals on defeat is that Palworld is in Early Access, meaning it’s still filled with bugs and glitches that need ironing out. This means that if, for example, you get stuck somewhere or fall through the world, and you have no choice but to respawn, you’ll lose everything through no fault of your own. So you may want to change this to “Drop all items” or even “No items dropped” if this bothers you. You could always change it back once the game is in a less buggy state – the choice is yours. I personally have no death penalty in my own game because I’ve fallen through the floor more times than I can count, and losing my items every time is brutal.
How to change Palworld server settings
To switch your Palworld world server settings, go to the main menu and select ‘Start Game’. Click on your world and then on ‘Change World Settings’. Scroll until you see Difficulty, and change this to ‘Custom’ to be able to tweak the options to your heart’s desire. Note that you can’t change your world’s settings while you’re in-game – you must return to the title screen.
