Those of you that fall on the Leon Kennedy side of Resident Evil fandom might remember 2008’s Resident Evil: Degeneration, a CG film published by Capcom and Sony. You might even have fond memories of it, despite the fact that it wasn’t particularly memorable.

Regardless of quality, Degeneration had a couple things going for it. First, it picked up where Leon’s story in RE4 left off; and second, it reunited him with Claire Redfield, which probably lit up the eyes of more than a few Resident Evil 2 fans.

While Degeneration was limited to a two-week theatrical release in Japan, Capcom reveal that box office revenue surpassed 40 million yen, and that the home video release has shipped over 1.6 million copies worldwide. Naturally, they saw the potential in a follow-up movie.

Enter: Resident Evil: Damnation, a direct sequel that once again puts Leon in the leading role. Damnation is slated for a 2012 release in stereoscopic 3D, but no details on its setting or other characters have been announced yet.
