Dave Cox, creative producer of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, says that developer MercurySteam have improved upon the game’s combat with new weapons and a strategic angle. The main focus of the game, however, is on exploration.

While Lords of Shadow 2 is a story-driven game and still leads you on a path, Cox says that you’ll still have the option of going off in different directions or backtracking to do a bit of exploration and find hidden things in the world.

From a story standpoint, the goal is to tell the story of Dracula. “He’s not a good guy. He’s a bad guy and we show that,” Cox says, adding that the story will be come to a “real end” in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2.

Talking further about the game’s story and setting, Cox says that the decision to set Lords of Shadow 2 in the modern world came up during the development of the original game. The development team decided to include a glimpse at the modern world at the very end of the first game as a surprise, which naturally led to it being the setting for Lords of Shadow 2. Cox clarifies that the game takes place in a fictitious city.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is slated for release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this Fall. You can hear more from Cox in the video above.
