Andy LaPlegua, the founder of Combichrist, is composing the music for Hellblade, Ninja Theory reveal in a new development diary.
According to the studio’s creative director, Tameem Antoniades, LaPlegua’s music suits the game because it’s “very aggressive, tribal, dark, and contemporary,” which reflects the game’s Viking backdrop.
Antoniades also adds that LaPlegua is from Norway, which is the land of the Vikings. He was encouraged to use his knowledge of the Norwegian language while composing the Viking songs for the game.
LaPlegua (and Combichrist) also contributed music to DmC Devil May Cry, including the game’s opening theme song, “Throat Full of Glass”.
You can listen to some of LaPlegua’s music for Hellblade in the dev diary above. The game is in development for PC and PlayStation 4.
