David Adams, CEO of Crytek USA, has plans to bid for rights to the Darksiders I.P., he revealed via his Twitter account this week.
“Going to bid on Darksiders IP,” Adams tweeted. “Put 7 years of heart and soul into that franchise, and I think it belongs at home with its creators.”
Prior to founding Crytek USA, Adams was co-founder of Vigil Games, who developed the Darksiders games under THQ. Back in January, THQ auctioned off their studios and I.P. to the highest bidders, but Darksiders and Vigil weren’t fortunate enough to find any takers. Then, Crytek took on a core team of developers from Vigil, along with Adams, and formed the Crytek USA studio.
Additionally, Destructoid have confirmed Adams’ intentions with Crytek USA as well.
“When the Darksiders IP goes up for auction, Crytek will be bidding for it,” Crytek USA’s principal designer—and Vigil co-founder—Ryan Stefanelli said to the site. “Not much more to say since the rest is left up to courts and legal shenanigans, but we’re all excited at the prospect.”
Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli once stated that Crytek weren’t interested in continuing the Darksiders series, but it appears as though there may have been a change of heart since. That said, it remains to be seen whether or not we’ll see more Darksiders games in the future.
