LAZR

Developer Garrick Campsey and publisher Top Hat Studios have launched the cyberpunk platformer Lazr on Kickstarter. Lazr will be coming to the PlayStation 4, PS Vita, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and Linux if $10,000 is successfully raised by February 24, 2020.

After tweeting out a video clip of the demo in October 2019, Campsey decided to turn the demo into a full game. The demo is now available on PC, Mac, and Linux and offers people 15 levels, two bosses, and. 24 body modification combinations. It should give people between a half-hour to an hour of gameplay. The full game, which is scheduled for a November 2020 release, will be six to nine hours long.

You play as a killer android Lazr in the sprawling future megacity Alpha City One, where you must defeat rogue AI and mega-corporations. Lazr can shoot lazers from her eyes and upgrade her body with the game’s many modifications. These modifications add a strategic element to proceedings, as choosing between the various weapon types or movement modifications will affect how you progress throughout the games 100s of levels. The choices you make and which contracts you accept all influence the journey and which of the game’s multiple endings you discover.

It’s perhaps the aesthetic style that has drawn the most attention to Lazr. Lazr’s map overworld map features SNES-style Mode7 effects, and there’s even a holographic dog to pet and play fetch with.

Lazr isn’t the only video game to hit Kickstarter this week – the open-world RPG Kindred Fates also launched.

Lazr will be available for the PlayStation 4, PS Vita, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and Linux in November 2020 if fully funded.
