More games are joining to the Simple DS series on June 26 in Japan. One of them, The Simple DS Series Vol. 40: The Gekai (The Surgeon) takes cues from Trauma Center. Except instead of using neon organs D3 Publisher’s operating room simulator is more realistic. The Surgeon goes a step further and has players try to ameliorate actual medical conditions like coronary artery disease and appendicitis. It doesn’t look like the healing touch or the laser will be around, but you still have a scalpel. The Surgeon sounds less like sci-fi and more Grey’s Anatomy.
The Simple DS Series Vol. 39: The Shouboutai (The Firefighting crew) is about dousing flames with the stylus. Players can poke patches of fire to put them out with their hose or a coat of foam. Other tools include an axe for breaking down doors, which leads one of the three fire fighters inside burning buildings. While inside you need to search for people to rescue, avoid backdraft and face “bosses” which look like huge towers of fire.
It looks like D3 Publisher is beginning to make DS games with professions in mind. Previously, they released a game where you played a dentist. At this point I wouldn’t be surprised to see The Simple DS Series Vol. ??: The Lawyer and The Simple DS Series Vol. ??: The Chef in the future.
