Both games in Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D Remake feature some gameplay changes, in addition to new elements like the Princess of Cannock being playable, and the latest reveals involve scrolls and sigils. The former offer a means of getting new abilities in these remakes. The latter involves the necessary items we collect influencing battle to change and improve abilities.

In the case of the Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D Remake scrolls, these allow us to teach characters new attacks or abilities they wouldn’t normally be able to use. The initial screenshots and announcement noted they are rewards we find on journeys, with one being shown inside of a chest opened in a dungeon. The initial announcement referenced the Prince of Midenhall being able to learn the Forbearance defensive skill, and a screenshot showed either the Prince or Princess of Cannock being able to be taught Assassin’s Stab after finding a scroll for it in a chest.

As for the sigils, we’ll pick five of them up in each game. These are the Moon, Soul, Star, Sun, and Water ones. While these are needed to defeat Hargon in the second game, they offer bonuses in both. One screenshot showed how the Sun Sigil can cause critical hits, the Soul Sigil can upgrade attacks when “conditions” are right, and the Moon Sigil can change how abilities work. In the screenshots, it showed that the Prince of Midenhall’s Dragon Slash in the second game could become Double Dragon Slash when the Soul Sigil is held.

Here are the latest screenshots showing those scrolls and sigils off.

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will come to the Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on October 30, 2025.
