An even more drastic departure than the more self-serious Iron Rain, Earth Defense Force: World Brothers is a cartoony take on the Earth Defense Force made using a Minecraft-like voxel visual style. EDF is already silly when it comes to the numbered games in the series, so World Brothers looks like a really concentrated effort to appeal to new demographics and perhaps just make the fans laugh even more.

Set on a Voxel Earth, World Brothers almost looks like a hero shooter variant with a pretty large cast of colorful soldiers to play as. This is also notably the EDF series‘ debut on the Nintendo Switch. This lower-fidelity art style could also be part of getting this series, which is known for chugging a bit due to the ridiculous number of giant insects on the screen, running smoothly on Nintendo’s handheld.
