We are going to see the classic Nihon Falcom JRPG The Legend of Heroes III: The White Witch again, but it won’t be the company handling it. Instead, it announced that Neowiz will be in charge of developing and publishing the title. The official press release and announcement seems to suggest this will be a remake, as it mentioned “faithfully recreating” the title. No platforms are confirmed yet, but consoles and PCs were mentioned.
The Legend of Heroes III: The White Witch starts as a coming of age story for childhood friends Jurio and Chris that starts with the two going on a traditional adventure that turns into something more and greater. We’ve also seen it quite a few times and from companies other than Falcom before, though only one of those was a worldwide release. It is the first Gagharv Trilogy game, which included A Tear of Vermillion and Song of the Ocean as well.
See, when we first saw this Falcom JRPG worldwide, that was the Bandai Namco release. It was released in English as The Legend of Heroes II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch. (Yes, this ended up being a Final Fantasy III/Final Fantasy VI situation.) It originally appeared on the PC98 back in 1994, with other PS1, Saturn, PC, and mobile ports following in Japan and Asia. Prior to this revival, we saw an Eggconsole version of the PC-9801 version. That’s on the Switch everywhere via the eShop.
