Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer LIVE Part LXVII offered an update on the congestion situation. Namely, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida talked about a matter that’s been in the works since May 2021. The new FFXIV Oceanic data center, which will be known as Materia, got a launch window. People will see it in February 2022.
Yoshida always noted that the new Oceanic data center for FFXIV would come after Endwalker‘s release. The latest reveal confirmed that its worlds will be New Worlds. This means people who are in Oceania or have characters at other data centers’ worlds could move there for free. Normally, there is a fee associated with a transfer.
While people wait, people can check FFXIV data center server status and news on the Lodestone. It shows the state of Japan’s Elemental, Gaia, and Mana, North America’s Aether, Crystal, and Primal, and Europe’s Chaos and Light data centers. The login cap did increase for the European worlds.
As for other new data centers, that will take time. In an interview with Siliconera, Yoshida noted the semiconductor shortage. He reminded people, “Even if we’re able to pay for them, there’s just a physical lack of them. And so we would love to add more capacity, more worlds, to our game. It is quite a problem at this time.”
Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC. The FFXIV Endwalker expansion will launch on December 7, 2021. The new FFXIV Oceanic data center will launch in February 2022.
