Final Fantasy 14 PS5 character backup

Final Fantasy XIV Reminds PS5 Players To Backup Character Settings

With the PS5 now officially released in the first few countries such as Japan and the United States, some players may be eager to immediately migrate to the new console and make good use of the PS4 backwards compatibility feature on many supported titles, such as Final Fantasy XIV. However, some precautions should be read first before they can enjoy playing the MMORPG on the PlayStation 5.

Square Enix published a new post on the official Final Fantasy XIV website that explains important procedures to improve players’ experiences on migrating from PS4 to PS5. The essential one pertains to the character settings, as they are not automatically transferred to the new console. Players must first utilize the Server Backup function from the PS4 to upload their settings to the server first. Only then can they move on to the PS5 client and restore the settings from the server.

Naoki Yoshida and Toshio Murouchi previously talked about how accessing the PS4 client from the PS5 will support a higher resolution setting originally intended for the PS4 Pro. This option is available from the Display Settings inside System Configuration. However, the setting will only be available when the PS5 is connected to a TV or monitor that supports 4K resolution.

To install Final Fantasy XIV on the PS5, all you need to do is to find the title in Game Library from the same account that was used to access the MMORPG on the PS4. If you have a physical disc of the game, make sure you have bought the regular PS5 instead of the Digital Edition, which lacks a disc drive.

Final Fantasy XIV is immediately available on PC and PlayStation 4, with the PlayStation 5 supporting backwards compatibility of the latter version.
