Square Enix’s latest announced a ton of new information about Final Fantasy Resonance that confirmed recurring bosses Gilgamesh and Ultima Weapon will appear alongside more characters from the mainline series like Clive, Firion, Lightning, and Vaan will be in the new game. Four more Espers are also confirmed as summons, and there will also be assorted Mighty Foes with Magicite and optional Secret Dungeons.
As usual, both Gilgamesh and Ultima Weapon will appear as bosses to challenge in Final Fantasy Resonance. However, the way we encounter the two will be different. Square Enix shared some screenshots of Gilgamesh, and it seems we might get to meet him a few times in different locations. Meanwhile, Ultima Weapon seems as though it might be the type of opponent we won’t see until we’re at the very end of the game and doing some last minute prep to ensure we’re ready.
As for the returning Final Fantasy characters who will show up as Visions and the Esper summons coming back, that’s when folks like Lightning from FFXIII and Clive from FFXVI come in. The announcement covered some reveals, and here’s who else we’ll be able to summon for assistance:

- FFII – Firion
- FFIII – Onion Knight
- FFXII – Vaan
- FFXIII – Lightning
- FFXV – Noctis
- FFXVI – Clive
- Espers:
- Bahamut
- Carbuncle
- Leviathan
- Odin
There are also a ton of new screenshots showing off Gilgamesh, Ultima Weapon, new and returning characters, Visions, and Espers.
We’ve seen quite a few updates on Final Fantasy Resonance characters and Espers ahead of this latest Gilgamesh and Ultima Weapon reveal. One update confirmed FFVII’s Squall, FFIX’s Zidane, and FFX’s Tidus alongside Ifrit, Shiva, and Titan Espers. Of course, Cloud from FFVIIwill be there too.
Final Fantasy Resonance will come to the Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on October 22, 2026.
