Fractured Soul 3D is an upcoming side-scrolling platformer for the Nintendo 3DS, slated to be published by Ignition Entertainment in early 2012. The game is played across both screens of the 3DS at once. This forces you to switch between the two screens regularly to dodge bullets and avoid enemies.
Story-wise, Fractured Soul 3D has you play as Jake DeSaul, an interplanetary rogue with a mysterious past. Not just mysterious, but also troubled. He’s now trying to escape an eerie space station. As you get further into the game, you face Jake’s regrets, hopes and dreams over his lifetime (hence the title of the game), and it sounds like these start to bleed over into reality.
There are five worlds in Fractured Soul 3D, each with different environments and effects — inverted gravity, damage, wind, ice and underwater. In addition to these, there are four shoot-em-up levels that also make use of screen-switching. Each level is timed and ranked to encourage replayability.
Here’s the catch: Fractured Soul was originally a Nintendo DS game, developed by Endgame Studios. As of March, Endgame are a licensed Nintendo 3DS developer as well, although, we don’t know if they’re developing the 3DS version and if it’s a new game or a port.
