It seems the Fire Emblem Heroes April Fools’ Day surprise has arrived a little early. To get in the spirit of the game and celebrate the 30th anniversary of the series, which is April 20, 2020, it is going old school. An 8-bit version of Fire Emblem Heroes is coming around, complete with retro maps and accessories. They will appear in-game on April 1, 2020.

Here’s the 8-bit Fire Emblem Heroes April Fools’ video. It suggests Feh made her “own” Fire Emblem game, explaining the different art direction and chiptune soundtrack. While something went “wrong,” the maps she made were saved and will be added to the game. Clearing them all on Normal will give people an 8-bit Alfonse accessory. Beating them on Hard will reward people with an 8-bit Sharena accessory. Finally, clearing them on Infernal will send out an 8-bit Anna accessory. In addition, the 8-bit Messenger Owl Feh and 8-bit Messenger Chief Fehnix will be log-in bonuses.

As a reminder, Fire Emblem Heroes April Fools’ jokes aren’t uncommon. For 2019, the trick involved making Feh a Legendary unit. In reality, everyone was given an orb accessory that looks like the one she carries around.
