Helen’s Mysterious Castle is a retro tactical RPG developed by Japanese indie developer Satsu. The game will be released DRM-free via Playism in English on August 22nd, and will cost just $1.99.

In Helen’s Mysterious Castle, you don’t have party members to fight alongside you. Instead, Helen collects weapons on her journey and each weapon provides a unique attack for her to use in battle, complete with its own attack/defense and time cost.

Along the way, you’ll find stronger weapons, and will also be given the option to continually upgrade your old weapons, which means you won’t have to toss them away. The game also includes a convenient death system whereby dying makes you respawn at Helen’s home with a meal waiting for her. Eating the meal will give you a small permanent health increase, making the game a tad easier.

Here’s a story summary for the game:

Helen knows little about who she is and where she is, but she’s dying to find out. Stuck on an island with a mazelike castle begging to be explored, Helen lets her curiosity get the better of her. It’s a good thing she’s more than capable. Armed with a plethora of weapons she finds on her journey, Helen must battle monsters, collect amazing relics, and uncover the secrets of her mysterious home.
