Hideo Kojima States Kojima Productions Will Remain Independent

Kojima Productions Independent

Following acquisition rumors, Hideo Kojima has taken to Twitter to reaffirm that Kojima Productions will remain an independent studio. Rumors began circulating after the Sony Twitter account changed its header to include an image of the protagonist of Death Stranding. Some hours later, Kojima tweeted an image of the header on his personal Twitter account. This prompted some users to speculate that Kojima Productions would be acquired by Sony or that an announcement of a potential acquisition would follow.

However, Hideo Kojima has dispelled these rumors and stated that Kojima Productions will remain independent. In November 2021, Kojima Productions opened a music and television division. The purpose of this division, according to Kojima Productions’ business development manager Yoshiko Fukada, is to create new avenues to entertain and create engagement among its audience. However, potential projects from the division have yet to be announced.

In December 2021 and January 2022, Kojima teased new projects. In December 2021, Kojima mentioned in a column with Famitsu that he was currently working on two new game-related projects. He described one of these titles as “big,” while the other was “challenging.” In January 2022, Kojima teased a new project through an image shared on Twitter of his desktop. However, it is unclear if the project teased in January 2022 has anything to do with the two games he is working on.
