How do I unlock the Kafka Companion Mission in Honkai: Star Rail?

To unlock the Kafka Companion Mission, you need to be Trailblazer level 34 and have completed the “Finish A Dragon Gallant, Its Ocean Distant” quest. It is the second chapter of the Topclouded Towerthrust arc on The Xianzhou Luofu. Once you have completed both prerequisites, you will receive a text message from Kafka. After responding to her, the “Letter from a Strange Woman” Companion Mission will now be available in your Mission menu tab.

To start the Honkai: Star Rail 1.2 mission, fast-travel to the Divination Commission on the Xianzhou Luofu and speak to the Stellaron Hunter. Kafka will then ask you to decide whether you want to help her or not. If you choose no, the quest will actually end immediately and instantly give you all rewards. However, you will miss out on the Companion Mission’s story. So I recommend choosing to help her.

You will be given two optional tasks, such as asking for Himeko and Welt’s opinions or reporting Kafka to the Seat of the Divine Foresight. Both tasks add to the story, but don’t have any impact on the quest itself. So feel free to do them if you are so inclined. However, the Stellaron Hunter’s Companion Mission doesn’t actually start until you speak to Kafka at the Divination Commission.

How do I complete the Kafka Companion Mission?

After speaking to Kafka, she will ask you to take out two enemies that are roaming nearby. Once you’ve dispatched them, head back to the Stellaron Hunter and speak to her once again. Here is where the Honkai: Star Rail Companion Mission now gets interesting, as Kafka asks you to play “Two Truths and a Lie.” She begins the game by asking the Trailblazer a question, and you are able to select any answer you want. Before you stress out, none of the answers you give in the game actually affects the story. So like earlier, feel free to choose whatever you feel is best.

Now that you’ve answered Kafka, she will again ask you to battle nearby patrolling Cloud Knight enemies. You do have the option to persuade them to avoid battle, but it’s actually quicker to fight them. Regardless of which choice you make, return to Kafka a second time, where it’s now your turn to ask her a question. Like the answer portion, you can choose any question you want, and the outcome will stay the same. However, asking about the Trailblazer reveals some interesting lore about the protagonist.

Kafka will once again ask you to take on enemies. This time you can try to “change fate” by avoiding the battles altogether. To do this, you need to solve a puzzle to close the gates nearby, then hack the Aurumaton to distract the Cloud Knights. You don’t get anything extra for doing this, so the quicker option is just to battle both enemies. Whichever option you choose, head back to answer Kafka’s second question. The conversation will come to an end with you asking her your final question, which again can be any of the options.

The Companion Mission will now enter its final stage, during which you take on Yanqing. He arrived to arrest Blade and Kafka. The battle is fairly simple, as you only need to destroy his floating ice blades to dispatch him quickly. Once you have defeated the Cloud Knight Lieutenant, “Letter from a Strange Woman” will come to an end with you speaking to both Kafka and Blade one last time.

What are the rewards?

Besides getting a pretty interesting look at Blade and Kafka’s backstory, you will walk away with a decent number of rewards for completing the mission. Those who are specifically pulling for five-star Stellaron Hunter Kafka will definitely want to complete this quest as you are given a handful of her Ascension Material.

These are all the “Letter from a Strange Woman” rewards:

  • 300 Trailblaze EXP.
  • 100 Stellar Jade.
  • Six Traveler’s Guide.
  • Six Lost Crystal.
  • Six Obsidian of Desolation.
  • One Hunter’s Intuition.
  • 60,000 Credit.

Although helping Kafka is probably the more rewarding option, HoYoverse still makes things interesting for those who skip it altogether. If you decide not to help Kafka, the Stellaron Hunter will message your phone again, praising you for being able to “alter fate” in an interesting way. So regardless of which choice you make, it seems the Trailblazer’s fate is intertwined with Kafka’s.

Honkai: Star Rail is available for PCs and mobile devices, and a PS5 version will arrive in 2023.
