Honkai: Star Rail Yukong Companion Mission Shows Her Mom Side

The Yukong Companion Mission “For I Have Touched The Sky” went live as part of Honkai: Star Rail version 1.2. Compared to some other ones, such as Kafka’s or even Bailu’s, it is very straightforward. The main focus of her story is to get to know the Helm Maser of the Xianzhou Luofu better, as well as learn more about the Xianzhou Alliance’s lore. As soon as you finish the “Topclouded Towerthrust” Trailblaze Mission, you will be able to take on Yukong’s Companion Mission. In order to start it, you simply need to teleport to Stargazer Navalia. Once you’re there, Xikui will send you a text message and start off the quest.

How to Complete the Yukong Companion Mission in Honkai: Star Rail

As mentioned earlier, Yukong’s Companion Mission in Honkai: Star Rail is very straightforward. Whenever it tells you to look for something with a cycrane, what you need to look for is on the map. All the dialog options will net you similar responses too, so unlike Kafka’s, there’s no need to save scum or go online to look up all of the dialog. There are a few parts where you have to hand certain characters items to progress the plot. While there are no penalties to handing in the wrong choice, here are the correct answers for those:

  1. When speaking with Jing Yuan in the Seat of Divine Foresight, hand him the Divine Arrow Ambers.
  2. When speaking with Yanming after he catches you and Qingni snooping around, present him anything you want.
  3. At the end, when speaking with Yukong, Qingni will find herself at a loss for words. So you have to help her! Present her Caiyi’s Exchange Diary to hep her convince Yukong.

After completing “For I Have Touched The Sky,” Yukong will appear as a guest on the Astral Express. You will also unlock an achievement. Completing this quest will net you the “Warden of Jade” track to listen to in the Parlor Car.

What Does “For I Have Touched The Sky” Tell You About Yukong?

Honkai: Star Rail Companion Missions, for the most part, focus almost entirely on the character in question. Yukong’s is no different. I imagine it’s like watching The Little Mermaid (1989) as a kid and thinking King Triton is totally unfair, and then watching The Little Mermaid (1989) as an adult and realizing Ariel is literally a child who doesn’t know anything about the world. How old you are or where you are in life (as well as your own opinions on parenting!) will likely determine if you sympathized more with Yukong or Qingni.

Personally, I sided with Yukong more. Even without her war trauma, it’s understandable why she wouldn’t want her only daughter to leave her cushy desk job and go be a soldier. Speaking as an Asian, it’s really the most Asian thing for a parent to do what they can behind the scenes to guarantee what they think is a “good life” for their child, even if that’s not what they want. I haven’t looked at opinions online regarding Yukong’s Companion Mission. But I do hope that non-Asians don’t gripe at her for seeming overbearing or controlling. That’s our moms you’re calling overbearing and controlling. But let’s ignore parenting debates for a bit. Let’s focus more on Yukong as a character rather than as a mom. Like Dan Shu, Yukong also expresses distrust for the Aeon Lan. Lan actually inadvertently killed Dan Shu’s friend. Meanwhile, Yukong lost plenty of friends and companions during the war, only to realize that Lan could have swept all of the Abundance’s troops. It’s the realization that she and all of her friends were essentially cannon fodder to buy time that causes her to express distrust towards the Aeon. This is the second character in Xianzhou Luofu to show doubt in Lan. Whether this will lead to an actual conflict between the Xianzhou Alliance and the Hunt, or if this is just a piece of worldbuilding is unclear at this point. Honkai: Star Rail is readily available on mobile devices and Windows PC. A PS5 version is in development.
