There is a relationship system in Unicorn Overlord, with players able to build Rapport between characters via various actions. However, there’s one method that’s much faster than any other and I recommend for if you want to see conversations between allies.
How do I build relationship Rapport between characters fast in Unicorn Overlord?
So, the four basic methods of building a relationship are to have units fighting in the same squad together, to give gifts to a character who is stationed at a city as a guard, to take part in certain overworld interactions for some characters, or to share a meal together at a Tavern. That last one is the absolute best way to quickly bolster a relationship between characters.
You only can find a Tavern in a Walled City or Citadel in Unicorn Overlord. This means they are more uncommon than the smaller town and forts you’ll often happen upon. However, for the cost and boost for relationships, it is absolutely worth it. I found at the very first Tavern that the 660 G Honey-Apple Tarte Tatin boosts Rapport by 110 between two characters, which basically ends up being enough to unlock the first support conversation.
Since characters can’t get “full,” you could spend a couple thousand Gs, buy some of the meals, and unlock conversations quickly so you don’t need to use a slower method to build up bonds.
When can I unlock my first Tavern in Unicorn Overlord?
It actually takes a while! Once Alain gets to the mainland, the first Walled City of Barbatimo is surrounded on all sides by heavy guards on the order of Mordon. Mages are the only ones capable of easily getting through those defenses, and Hodrick is incredibly susceptible to Mordon’s attacks. So even though it is right to the east of Fort Soligie, the first one you get and occupy, you actually need to head toward Bellum Ghoria Hamlet and south to unlock Yahna the witch to storm that walled city and beat Mordon.
Once you do, you will gain the ability to access the Tavern and start building up the Rapport between your Unicorn Overlord characters fast.
Remember that once you do build up to a Rapport conversation, you might not be able to view it right away! They require you to take control of certain parts of the map first!
