How to Dig Up Village in the Shade Capsule Machine Tokens

Outside of Tagami General Store in Village in the Shade is a capsule machine that only accepts buried tokens that you can dig up around town. There’s a whole tutorial tied to it fairly early in Year 1 Spring that involves Sazanka teaching the protagonist Ame and Yoh how it works. But, it might not be exactly clear how to find and get them after that. Especially since the opportunities to dig them up come up infrequently. Here’s how to get them.

Editor’s note: There will be no Village in the Shade spoilers below.

These opportunities to dig up capsule machine buried tokens tend to come up both inside of Kagatsu Village and in the immediate surrounding area. You’ll see a very defined brown circle on the ground. I shared a screenshot of one that appeared behind the library in Summer Year 1 below, to give you a better idea of what to expect.

Once you see a hole like this, use your hoe to dig it up. The spade and pickaxe won’t work. Doing so will get you a buried token. You can then take that to the machines and, while it is in your inventory, turn the dial to get an animal figure.

Here’s where to use them, as well as what the chicken, duck, cow, sheep, and pig ones look like when placed in a home.

Whenever you get a token in Village in the Shade and use it at the capsule machines outside Tagami General Store, you’ll get a small decorative figurine of an animal. These can be placed in your home and on your farm like furniture. Even though Yoh will mention wanting them in the tutorial, you can’t give these items as gifts.

I’ve found I tend to find between two and three buried tokens to dig up each season in Village in the Shade, and they tend to start to appear after the first week of the month. (But that could just be how my luck worked out.)

Village in the Shade is available on the Switch, Switch 2, PS5, and PC.
