There are multiple Pokemon you can use in Pokemon Unite, but not all of the Unite Licenses to use them are free. Some require you to spend in-game currency. But fortunately for newcomers, there are an array of characters you can earn or pick up for free. In some cases, adding them to your roster is as simple as opening up the game.
The Free Pokemon Unite License You Earn by Completing the Tutorial
You get one for free for going through the tutorial. After you learn the basics, Erbie offers you one of five characters. You can pick Charizard, Eldegoss, Pikachu, Snorlax, or Talonflame. Don’t worry—the ones you don’t pick can be purchased with the in-game currency you earn from playing matches later.
Here are the five characters’ types.
- Charizard: Melee All-Rounder
- Eldegoss: Ranged Supporter
- Pikachu: Ranged Attacker
- Snorlax: Melee Defender
- Talonflame: Melee Speedster
Free Pokemon Unite Licenses You Earn by Logging into the Game
There are a total of four free characters you can get for popping into the game each day. The first time you log in, Zeraora will be waiting in your mailbox. It is a Melee Speedster. It is only available as a free bonus until August 31, 2021, though.
There is also a 14-day login event. If you pop into the game, you will earn three additional Pokemon Unite Licenses. Alolan Ninetails, a Ranged Attacker, is the first. It is given to you the second day you log in. The Ranged Attacker Cinderace is a reward for logging in for eight days. On the fourteenth day, you get a free Pokemon Unite License for Greninja. a Ranged Attacker.
Free Pokemon Unite Licenses You Earn by Playing
Some Pokemon Unite Licenses are rewards for playing battles. For example, reaching Trainer Level 2 nets you a Slowbro Unite License. It is a ranged Defender. When you hit Trainer Level 5, then you get the Venusaur license. It is a Ranged Attacker.
There is also a Beginner Challenge in effect. There are seven days worth of challenges until August 20, 2021. If you complete the missions for each day for the first six days, you will earn Crustle avatar items for you trainer. On the seventh day, you can complete tasks to earn the free Crustle Pokemon Unite License.
Pokemon Unite is available for the Nintendo Switch. It will come to mobile devices in September 2021.
