We get the ability to fast travel in Village in the Shade incredibly quickly, but there’s a catch to it. Early on, it just applies to getting home ASAP. But that is still incredibly handy, especially if you need to check on Blast Furnaces or want to drop off stuff without using the storage boxes around town.

On the sixth day of Spring, Komako will teach your avatar Ame and Yoh how to whistle as a safety precaution. However, doing so will summon a white dog to your side. You’ll then learn the dog whistle. In addition to this coming up as important story-wise shortly after, it’s your new fast travel system.
Whenever you are outdoors and it is during the day and not after 11pm, you can bring up the tools wheel and press the left trigger to start whistling. Pressing L or R will let you choose which whistle notes you follow. One short burst, followed by a slightly long one, causes the dog to show up when you are in a place the pet can reach. You then get a prompt to return home.

As a note, you can eventually have Kisuke build a doghouse for if you get enough money and wood. Doing so means the dog might leave you small animal bones outside their home in the morning.
