How to Make a Route in Pokémon GO

To celebrate the start of the Blaze New Trails event on July 21, 2023 Pokémon GO has a new feature called Routes. These are part of Niantic’s initiative to attempt to make it easier for rural players to find Pokemon. Here’s how to make a route in the AR mobile game.

How do I make a Route in Pokémon GO?

If you have a favorite walking spot when playing, the Routes feature in Pokémon GO is your way of showing it off to other Trainers. It tells local players in your area exactly where to go, thanks to a path mapped out by you, and perhaps make it easier to find Pokemon.

To make a Route for other players to follow in Pokémon GO, select a Gym or PokéStop as your starting point and another as your end point. Click “Confirm and Proceed” to save your points.

A prompt asking you if you’re ready to record your Route will appear. To record your Route, you will need to actually walk it, so select “Yes” when you’re outside and at your selected starting point. You can play Pokémon GO as normal while the application is recording your walked path.

Once you reach your set end PokéStop or Gym, another prompt will pop up. Click “Yes, I’m done” and you’ll be tasked with naming and describing your recorded Route. Here, you can give it a Route Title, confirm whether your Route works in reverse or not, and note whether you give permission for your Trainer nickname to be shared with other players who walk your Route.

Select “Next” and you’ll see a field where you can input a description for your Route, and a drop-down menu to choose up to five tags to assign to your Route. This helps other Trainers find your Route if they search for a specific tag. Then choose a photo for your Route that will be displayed to others.

Finally, hit “Submit” and your recorded Pokémon GO Route will be submitted to Niantic for review.

Pokémon GO is available to play now on iOS and Android devices.
