As you start to craft items in Pokemon Pokopia, you’ll eventually come across recipes that need things like glass, iron ingots, copper ingots, and gold ingots. All of these aren’t difficult to get! However, they are tied to the story in the Rocky Ridges region, so you need to make significant progress to create them.

Like the cooking mechanic in Pokemon Pokopia, using a Smelting Furnace to get more crafting materials is tied to a questline and additional Pokemon. When in Rocky Ridges, after rescuing Chef Dente, you’ll be tasked with making a Simple Hamburger Steak with beans in a frying pan. However, you need copper ingots to make it! Copper ore is plentiful in the mines area to the north of the Pokemon Center, near the hot springs, but you don’t immediately have a way to melt it down.

As part of the cooking questline, you get a powered up Cut ability via eating Simple Bread. This allows you to cut through the metal fence blocking off an area to the northeast of the Pokemon Center. Following the cart tracks there will lead you to the hint for finding Magmar, as well as a Smelting Furnace you can pick up and place at camp. This area should also have the wheelbarrow and excavation tools you need for Magmar’s habitat.

I recommend setting that up not far from the Pokemon Center. This is because you’ll want other fire type Pokemon who are around to help with the process and, while you will soon get the recipe for the Smelting Furnace while in this area, for a while this will be the only one you’ve got. (When you do get that recipe, it will need four iron ores and four stones.) Set up the habitat, and Magmar should show up within a few minutes.

To get ingots and glass in Pokemon Pokopia, place a Smelting Furnace. For iron, copper, and gold ingots, put iron, copper, and gold ore inside. For glass, put in volcanic ash, sand, or sandstone inside. This goes at a 1:1 ratio, so putting in 5 copper ore will net you 5 copper ingots. Any fire type Pokemon in the area will answer the call, and you’ll see a little icon to let you know which one will take up the job. After a period of real-world time, you’ll find the items waiting for you.

Pokemon Pokopia is available for the Switch 2.
