How to Use Synthesis to Make Items in Atelier Yumia

The whole point of Atelier Yumia (and the series as a whole) is that Yumia is an alchemist. As an alchemist, Yumia and the player are able to make various items through synthesis. That said, even for veteran fans of the series, alchemy is way different this time. Here’s what you need to know about how to use alchemy and synthesis to make items in Atelier Yumia.

Where to Use Alchemy in Atelier Yumia

In general, you can only use alchemy at a single place. That place is the titular atelier. Yumia has an ancient atelier she uses that is found in the Ligneus region. This is the first region you start the JRPG in and one of the first locations you visit in the main story. That said, you can technically play quite a bit of the open-world without visiting the atelier for the first time.

If you don’t know where the atelier is, you may need to continue the main story. Otherwise, open up the map and you can press down on the left thumbstick (controller) to immediately zip to the atelier’s location. It is here that you are able to synthesize and make items like healing items, weapons, and more.

How to Synthesize Items in Atelier Yumia

As for how alchemy and synthesis works in Atelier Yumia, it is a pretty open but initially confusing system. What you do is first ensure you have the recipe you want to use. If you don’t, you will need visit the Recipe Recall Station. Once you have a recipe, you pick an item to act as the core for it.

Then you will have a couple of smaller circles surrounding the core. You must fill them with other materials you gather in the world to craft the item. As long as you have required number of items, in general, it doesn’t matter what they are. Except for quality. You will need higher quality items and ones that match certain elements for each recipe to get the most powerful item. You can also auto-synthesize items instead of going through the efforts of selecting, which is also quite useful.

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is now available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S.
