Monster Hunter is going social (again), this time on the GREE mobile platform in Japan. “Monhan Tankenki Maboroshi no Shima” is an upcoming social game based on characters from Monster Hunter Frontier Online. It’ll begin running by the end of 2011.

In Monhan Tankenki Maboroshi no Shima, players explore an island to acquire and raise monsters.

The game begins when you read an e-mail and find yourself transported to a place named “Phantom Island”. Here, you can cooperate with other players to take on a variety of monsters and battle them, with the goal of raising the strongest monster.

Earlier this year, Capcom released a social game based on Resident Evil Outbreak on the GREE platform as well, which they say has been “very successful,” with over a million users since its launch in June. The plan, they say, is to increase collaborations with GREE in order to contribute to the growth of the social games market.
