Journey of the West heads to the Nintendo DS

D3 Publisher picked up the license to Monkey Magic, an anime series that aired on TV Tokyo way back in 1998. The series is notable since it’s loosely based off of the legend of Journey to the West where Sun Wukong, an immortal monkey travels with a monk to retrieve the Buddhist sutras from India. Plenty of characters are based off of Sun Wukong, Son Goku from Dragon Ball Z and Sonson (hi Capcom!) come to mind, but this is one of the rare times where you play as the original character… in SD form. The anime series quickly got the axe after 13 episodes right when the pilgrimage started, but here we are seven years later with a new side scrolling DS game. Interested? Game Watch has a nice gallery of screenshots to see from Monkey Magic. Here’s one more surprise, it’s not a Simple series title!
