Keiji Inafune announced that he has closed down Comcept following the decision of the company’s shareholder meeting on January 13, 2026. This announcement appeared on Page 83 of the official Japanese telegram published on January 29, 2026. [Thanks, gamebiz!]
Inafune established Comcept in late 2010—soon after he left Capcom, where he was best known for producing series like Mega Man, Onimusha, Dead Rising, and Lost Planet. During Inafune’s tenure at Comcept, he produced concepts for Inti Creates’ Azure Striker Gunvolt, Koei Tecmo’s Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, and Soul Sacrifice. One of his biggest highlights during this tenure was the Kickstarter campaign for Mighty No. 9.
Keiji Inafune was also known for establishing Level5 Comcept as a subsidiary of Akihiro Hino’s company Level-5 in 2017. However, Inafune completely left his positions at Level-5 in 2024. This led Hino to absorb Level5 Comcept into Level-5’s new office in Osaka in 2025 and dissolve the Comcept subsidiary.
Even though the Comcept company has already closed down, Keiji Inafune is still involved in the video game industry to some extent. Game*Spark reported that Inafune took part in the Sapporo Game Camp in October 2025 as a company executive in Rocket Studio, which had been involved in productions of titles like Momotaro Dentetsu World and Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection.
